VIEWERSHIP AND OUTREACH

The Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) has been in a constant state of evolution over the years.  With the acquisition and installation of new transmitters, our reach has improved. With current trends laying emphasis on precision  journalism, the ABS has seen the need and is implementing this trend by engaging in audience survey and analysis.  This is done with the intention of empirically determining the characteristics of her audiences and what their media use patterns are.

Over the years, audience research/survey, has given the ABS a leverage in terms of general acceptability of our programmes.  This is because the ABS strives to serve all categories of both listeners and viewers.  Though a majority of our audience are business people – from research finding, that might be attributable to the commercial base of Anambra State especially Onitsha there are still retirees, civil servants, students, applicants and more that tune in to our station.  The non literate in English are not left out as our programmes cut across different segmentations and comes through in English, Igbo,Special English, Igala and even French.  The physically challenged, specifically the mute, also have a share in the Anambra State cake.

Inspite of good rating from previous research efforts, the presence of close competitors makes the need for improvement really urgent.  In the bid to improve, the need for ongoing research cannot be over emphasized.  To fill this void, there is an ongoing FM radio audience research that will enable us ascertain where we are presently and how to forge ahead inspite
of a myriad of competition jostling for the potentials of the market in the state.  The path might be arduous but we will get there.
