The political siege on Anambra

Some of the aspirants include, Senator Annie Okonkwo (PDP); Dr Chris Ngige (AC); Barrister Emeka Etiaba (APGA); Mr Damian Okolo (PDP); Dr Alex Obiogbolu (PDP); Dr Andy Uba (PDP); Professor Ilochi Okafor (PDP);Dr Amamchukwu Ezeike (PDP) ; Ambassador Jerry Ugokwe (PDP) ; Mr Ralph Okey Nwosu (ADC); Dr Ifedi Okwenna (PDP); Kodilichukwu Okelekwe (PDP);Prince Ofili Nwosu (PPA);Deacon Ben Chukwuemeka Okeke (PDP); Kop Odidika (PDP) ; Okey Chikwendu (PPA); Dr Chinwoke Mbadinuju (PDP); Mr Goddy Ike (PDP).
Of course, the incumbent governor, Mr. Peter Obi, is no stranger to ruthless opposition, gangsterism and intimidation which are the tools of the aspirants.

He is, indeed, a man of great historic attributes. Rising from being the only governor in Nigeria with an all-opposition House of Assembly, he became one of the few governors with strange bed fellows as deputy.
The Anambra House of Assembly is constituted entirely with members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Record shows that Obi is the only governor who has been removed three times, and has returned three times. He became the first governor who, through fierce legal battle, set judicial record on normal tenure of a governor, when the Supreme Court ruled, in 2007, that a governor’s four-year tenure actually begins from the day he took the oath of office, not when the generality of governors took oath after a general election.

As the most besieged governor, political pundits are quick to conclude that it will be a matter of time for him to run out his tenure without achieving the least feat.
As the number of aspirants increases, so also thuggery, gangsterism and all forms of insecurity in the area increase. Each aspirant moves about with his own thugs thus making Anambra State ungovernable. In recent times, there have been reports of insecurity in the state ranging from kidnapping, ritual killings and outright robbery in the state.
