FG:ASUU finally sign agreement to end strike

Details of the agreement were however not disclosed to journalist at the end of negotiations brokered by the Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole with the Minister of Education, Dr. Sam Egwu, ASUU's President, Professor Anwuzie Ukachukwu and leaders of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities [SSANU], National Association of Academic Technologist [NAAT] and the non Academic Staff Union of Universities [NASUU] present.

Dr. Egwu told journalists after the parley in Abuja, the nation's capital city, that both parties shifted grounds during the negotiation. He said the deal with lecturers include salaries, university autonomy, funding and retirement age.

Professor Ukachukwu says that the deal will be tabled before national executive committee of the union while a final decision will be taken on the agreement.

ASUU first called off their strike which spanned over three months on Thursday, October 8 with Dr. Egwu promising that Federal Government and all the unions will reach a final agreement started since 2001.
